don’t know about you but I would so like to see some green buds on the trees, longer
evenings and warmer weather. Spring can’t be too far away surely? I find this time of
year the hardest to get through since living in the UK. This is what I call the limbo
season. It’s the between season, not really winter and just a little too early for spring. I can
now understand why so many people take holidays at this time of year to escape the wet,
damp, grey days in search of some sunshine and warmth.
To brighten the month for all our readers in the UK we’ve attached a fantastic set of beads
to this issue of Making Jewellery. The glass beads reflect the colours of spring! Add them
to your stash or make a new accessory in readiness for the sunnier months yet to come.
If you’re new to making jewellery then follow the instructions on page 25 and create
a bracelet or necklace, using the front cover mount beads or your own, it couldn’t be easier!
If, like me, you can’t escape for a vacation just now, then one way to beat the blues
is to settle into making a new jewellery project. If you’re looking for a challenge and
something to really shake awake those grey cells, Lesley Messam has made an amazing
interchangeable ring that combines basic silver smithing with precious metal clay
techniques. This contemporary floral design on page 76, certainly invokes fresh and
exciting new ideas. Jema Hewitt’s polymer clay tulip pendants on page 4 will add
a floral touch to your wardrobe, however, if you’d prefer something quick and easy that will
stimulate the senses without too much effort then try one of Sabine Little’s projects. The
butterfly pendant, glass bead bracelet and floral lampwork earrings take minutes to put
together. Don’t wait for spring to get inspired, open up this magazine and get making!
