conqueror. Kanye West the
plonker. It says a lot about
the way that Yeezy splits
opinion that he’s nominated
as both Hero and Villain
Of The Year at this week’s NME
Awards with Austin, Texas.
Me, I’m in the Hero camp –
mainly because I think his first,
second, fifth and sixth albums are
utterly brilliant and partly because I
like how much he gets on people’s
tits. I’m excited about this new
record for both reasons.
My favourite Kanye thing recently
was the brilliantly ludicrous theory
that David Bowie’s ‘The Rise
And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And
The Spiders From Mars’ foretold
the birth of Yeezus. The words
‘K.West’ on the cover; the
opening track ‘Five Years’
predicting the end of the world;
Kanye being born five years later.
It all fits. Okay, it doesn’t really,
but it’s a nice link from one widely
recognised musical masterpiece
to a man who has announced his
own to the world. Don’t go ch-ch-
ch-changing, KW.

L ast sunday, CoLdpL ay
thrilled an audience of more than
100 million with their staggering
super Bowl half-time show. Chris
Martin and co brought fireworks,
neon flowers, Beyoncé and
Bruno Mars to san Francisco’s
Levi’s stadium, cramming six of
their songs into the 13-minute
spectacular. By the end, people
were trying to work out if the
colour on their telly had gone
funny as the crowd in the stands
spelt out ‘Believe in love’ in
rainbow placards.
so where do you go from there?
Well, to Brixton – specifically to the
o2 academy Brixton on February
17, where Coldplay will close the
nME awards 2016 with austin,
texas after collecting their well-
deserved Godlike Genius award.
