1. DVD Content

The DVD contains the following files and folders:

·         License text file. This is the End User License Agreement, describing how you may and may not use the ReFill. Please read this document carefully!

·

·         Reason Pianos ReFills. There are two ReFills on the DVD - they are the same except that one has 24 bit samples and the other has 16 bit samples. More about this later in this document!

·

·         RPi Documentation folder. Contains the User Manual for the Reason Pianos.

·

·         Other Propellerhead Products. This folder contains info on additional Propellerhead Software products and a demo version of ReCycle 2.1.

·

·         Acrobat Reader installer.

·

·         ·              RPi Demo Songs (rps). Reason songs in rps format showing off the potential of Reason Pianos.

·

·         ·              RPi ReWire Demo Project. Contains a demo song for a number of ReWire hosts with the piano coming from Reason to be ReWired into the host. See the included ReadMe file for more information.

·

·         ·              ReWire Installer. The ReWire protocol is used for communicaton between two ReWire compatible Audio/Midi applications such as Reason and for example Logic or Cubase. The ReWire 1.7 update brings dramatically improved sample loading times in ReWire mode, among other things.

2. Why Two ReFills?

The two ReFills are exactly the same and are totally exchangeable. One contains 16 bit samples and the other 24 bit samples. That is the ONLY difference. The names of the samples are the same, so a song created with the 16 bit version will open fine with the 24 bit version installed or vice versa.

The purpose for a 16 bit version is that the patches become lighter and faster to load and the CPU doesn’t have to work as hard. The ReFill itself also takes up less space on the hard drive. The 24 bit version requires more RAM and a faster CPU than the 16 bit version to run smoothly.

Our recommendation would be to work with the 16 bit version when producing and use the 24 bit version for mixdown.

Note: As the ReFills are designed to be exchangeable, all data except the sample bit rates is identical, and therefore they cannot co-exist in any location where Reason scans for ReFills, such as the Reason program folder, the Desktop, or any additional folders you have added to the Locations pane in the Reason browser. If you plan on alternating between the two, the version not in use must always be kept outside of Reason’s jurisdiction!

3. How to Install the Reason Pianos ReFill

To start using the Reason Pianos ReFill with Reason is easy. Just

follow these simple steps:

1. Copy one of the Reason Pianos.rfl files (16 or 24 bit, depending on your preferences) from the DVD to the Reason application folder on your hard drive.

2. Start Reason. The new ReFill is now available. Check out the Style Piano Patches for inspiration.

4. Compatibility and Other Outstanding Issues

We have done our best to create the most realistic sounding set of pianos ever made for Reason. This means that the largest patches in this ReFill could weigh up to 400MB (16 bit format). To load them into NN-XT in Reason 3.0 takes more time than loading sounds from the Reason Factory Sound Bank. Therefore, we recommend a faster CPU and more memory for this product.

If you have less memory than recommended, or if you just want the patches to load faster, please use the Light patches. They are light version of the basic separate mics patches as well as all Preset Piano patches. They include three velocity layers as opposed to four and no release samples. These patches uses less RAM and less of your CPU. They could for example be used at the beginning of a project and later be replaced by the same “full” version when mixing and rendering the song.

One principle to follow when selecting a patch is that the more mics are involved the more power it needs. Preset Piano patches are usually lightest, then comes Style Pianos and last the Producer Pianos that in a few cases use all but one microphone at the same time.

5. About the Manual

We strongly recommend that you read the Manual. In addition to invaluable info on how to use the ReFill, it’s also full of facts about the Pianos used and on how we recorded them.
