Isn't is about time the Dragon
grew u p ? S u re ly a n internal

duced to give the Dragon eight
colours in it s highest resolu-
tion, o r even a higher resolu-
tion t h a n a t p re s e n t f o r
business programs and three
channel sound, with a white
noise channel for between the
E20 and the E50 mark. Also, as
an additional extra, an 80 x 24
text scre e n . T h i s e n h a n ce -
ment would have to be co m-
patible with the Dragon 32 and
64 machines. This would make
them m o r e a ttra ctive t h a n
other ma ch in e s i n i t s p rice
range, and would boost the 64
i nto t h e H o m e / B u s i n e s s m a r -
operating system which repla-
ced the built in DOS/Basic. It
has s e v e r a l a d v a n t a g e s ,
among which is multi tasking,
le you can sort, print, whatever,
and still be able to use the rest
of the machine's resources to
do something else.
Now for my question. Where
can I beg/borrow/steal or even
purchase 0S9 for the Dragon.
I have 0S9 for the Radio Shack
CoCo and d o like it, b u t how
can I get it for the Dragon?
I have been checking all of
the ads in DU for the past few
months, a n d s o m e o f t h e
advertisers mention 0 S 9 util-
ities etc., but none of them say
anything a b o u t t h e syst e m
itself.
I have the Dragon b y Tano
!made i n t h e U S ) a n d a
DragonDOS p a c k a n d d i s c
drive (made in England).
I also have two RiS CoCos
(No. 1 started as a 4k machine,
and has since been expanded
to 64k and the extended Basic
chip from RS; No. 2 is a CoCo
II, 64k extended), a multipack
interface, RS DOS installed in
a 'Di Stefano Super Controller.
I use the Dragon drives, have
added an 80 track double sid-
ed drive. with 160 tracks/drive
available, o n lin e storage can
approach the smaller hard disc
systems.

The whereabouts of the DOS

printer. Some have a built in
DOS. others are driven from a
DOS o n d isc. A s f a r a s th e

DOS. Peaksoft can give good
advice o n s u c h t h i n g s .

I refer to Keith Gardner's letter
(DU, Ja n u a ry 1987) a n d t h e
editor's note asking fo r co m-
ments about Cumana DOS. I
bought a Cu ma n a syste m a
few months ago. a n d swiftly
discovered t h e serious b u g s
that Keith refers to. I n brief,
data files are frequently not up-
dated properly, or at all; and in
some applications t h e c o m-
plete d isc ca n b e corrupted.
These faults have been p ro -
perly d o cu me n te d b y M i k e
Kerry of Grosvenor Software,
and I suggest any other unfor-
tunate experiencing problems
with Cu ma n a DO S contacts
him.
Unable t o o b t a i n a n y
answers f r o m C u ma n a , I
bought Gro sve n o r's S u p e r-
DOS, which I find totally error-
free. In addition, Mike was kind
enough to provide me with a
two-byte patch for Smithson's
Electronic Author, to fix a non-
standard DIRectory call.
At last I have a trouble free
system, no thanks to Cumana:
maybe it is no coincidence that
they are no longer producing
Dragon controllers. Although I
do not have any first hand ex-
perience o f it, th e controller
produced b y P N P C o m -
munications uses the Super-
DOS R O M a n d s h o u l d
therefore be a good solution.

I notice that there have been
several appearances in Brian
Cadge's 'A g o n y Co lu mn ' o f
Stylograph a n d t h e dreaded
double lin e feed. Bria n 's a d -
vice is to spool to stile and then
print using Xmode_ It does not
appear to work, since the act of
spooling i t s e l f p r o d u c e s
another line feed!
Apart from a fix to Stylo itself,
which no-one se e ms to have
successfully hacked, a conve-
nient a n s w e r l i e s i n t h e
mailmerge p ro g ra m. S imp le
save the text in the normal way
and then use mm >file( /p with
the modified mm program as
follows:

to VERIFY the file to correct the

meant was that it you had work-
ed with DST for some time and
then spilled for example your

replaced without any charge.
