worldwide, which has generated
them $400 million. From this
rather impressive amount, the
company will be spending $32
million on marketing. And the
vast majority of this cash will be
spent on keeping the Super
Nintendo (and Game Boy) in the
forefront of everybody's minds.
In the last year, Nintendo want
to have sold four million SNESses
and 20 million carts. And in the
next year, the company want to sell
a further three million Super
Nintendos. It's a very healthy
machine.
So where's the decent
software? Why aren't
the vast majority
of games
knocking the
combined
socks off
every SNES
owner? The
problem is
this: great games do sell in
lorryloads, but mediocre games can
sell well enough to covet the costs
of production, as well as make a
tidy profit for the mediocre
software companies that produced
them. If you could release a crap
game, earn a few grand and never
have to say sorry to the poor saps
who bought it. you would do it
wouldn't you?
There's nothing we can do
about people buying crap games in
the USA or Japan, but in the UK the
only answer is for people to make
sure they know what they're
getting. Playing games in the shop
is one way. Reading reviews in
Super Play is another. Even finding
out about stuff from your mates is
better than nothing.
We'd prefer you to read Super
Play, of course, because it's packed
with everything to do with the
SNES, and is brimming over with
news, tips and stuff that you lust
can't get anywhere else. And finally
I've got to the point of this editorial.
