Bun-Ching Lam's extended composition "...Like Water" is an evocative and imaginative work, as sensuous as its title. A native of Macau, now living in New York City, Lam has studied composition with Roger Reynolds, Pauline Oliveros and Robert Erickson, and has been previously commissioned to compose for the Arditti String Quartet, Ursala Oppens and Fritz Hauser. Her acclaimed debut album Mountain Clear Water Remote was released on C.R.I. in 1996. The redoubtable Abel/Steinberg/Winant Trio, dedicated to performances of music from the Americas, the Pacific Rim and Northwest Asia, is among the most important new music ensembles in the world, working with composers including Lou Harrison, Frederic Rzewski, Christian Wolff, Somei Satoh, Terry Riley, Fred Frith, Alvin Curran and Gordon Mumma. /Tzadik/
