BayCom - Packet-Radio Terminal Version 1.60 (C) Copyright 1994 DL8MBT/DG3RBU

*****************************************************************************

For information about the program refer to the printed manual "BayCom 1.60"

Copyright Note
--------------

Due to a number of unfortunate events we are forced to protect the
copyright on BayCom software and the manual more strictly than
before. As it was never intended to make more money with BayCom than
what was necessary to cover the cost of developing hardware and
software, and perhaps fundraising for amateur packet radio projects,
it should be noted that the developers had the benefit of the
amateur community in mind. They did not intend to support businesses
with freebies, who, in several cases have illegally supplied the
software with modem products.

As it is always regrettable when legal action has to be taken to
stop software pirates, we would like to outline our policy once
again:

- The purchase of BayCom software entitles you to use the software
for your own packet operation at your own station. It may only be
used for non-commercial purposes in amateur radio. The authors do
not accept liability for any loss or damage that may result from
the use of BayCom software or hardware. Amateur radio regulations
must be adhered to under all circumstances.

- The authors also permit you to copy the software privately and
hand it on to others, provided that:
  * the software is not offered for sale, and is not handed on
together with a commercial product, e.g., a modem.
  * it must not be mounted on file servers or distributed via
the amateur packet network or any other electronic network, or
CD's. Anyone violating this rule will be required to pay full
    royalties for all distributed copies.
  * all copies made must be individual copies, multiple copies
    are not permitted.
  * the software is handed on in its original release format,
including particular the copyright marks. Individual parameter
settings in SCC.INI or the terminal SCC.EXE may be modified.
  * the manual must not be copied.

- We hope that you will understand that it is not acceptable for us
to see other people reap the benefits of our work. It should also
be common sense among amateurs to accept that purchases from
commercial software pirates are not contributing to the funding of
further development of your packet radio network and your packet
  system.

- Apart from BayCom, the following groups are distributing BayCom in
their respective countries as a fundraising project for the local
  packet networks:

Auckland VHF Group in New Zealand Australian Amateur Packet
        Radio Association (AAPRA) in Australia

Both will also sell modem hardware. BayCom has licensed commercial
software distributors in the following countries:

UK: SISKIN ELECTRONICS USA: PACCOMM and TIGERTRONICS

It should be noted here that some dubious businesses sell older
versions of BayCom software, partly embedded into other software
to give them a somewhat professional touch. These versions are not
supported by BayCom as they are being used without consent.
Entering a :ver command at the terminal command prompt should
clarify this. Please note that all versions of BayCom in all
release languages are covered by the copyright, and that BayCom or
its representatives will act accordingly to prevent copyright
  violations.

- the authors and distributors of BayCom wish to state here that
only genuine BayCom software and hardware will be supported by
them. While we will try to help if problems arise, we would
appreciate if dissatisfied users of clone modems and/or
alternative software products would refrain from sharing their
grief with @WW in packet bulletins entitled "MY BAYCOM DOESN'T
WORK!!!". We must also mention here that the quality of our work
(which we do in our spare time) is negatively affected by the
pressure impatient users put on us.

We presume that most bona fide amateurs will understand this and
appreciate the work involved in development and distribution of
soft- and hardware. It is you we are doing this for, as the amount
of positive feedback proves. Have fun with BayCom!

If there is no BayCom dealer or distributor in your country, and you
are interested in becoming one, please contact

     Johannes Kneip Bert-Brecht-Weg 28 30890 Barsinghausen Germany

Enquiries, especially from clubs that wish to use BayCom as a
fundraising project for amateur radio packet development in their
country, are always welcome.
