PMT :
TWO SAXON CARRIAGES
PMT has released
two new carriages
based on the Saxon units
designed by Technomodell.
ese are former Saxon bogie
carriages built in 1900 by the
Chemnitz works and converted
for the Rügen island railway, one
(ref. 5-2482) n° 970 773 having
been transferred from the Mügeln
network in 1950 had its clerestory
removed, while the second (ref.
5-2482) n° 970201, transferred
from Nauen in July 196, has kept
this feature. Both are sheet-
metal clad 22-seater carriages,
with a WC and a coal stove.
ese carriages are a perfect
complement to the 4-wheeler
ones produced by Roco,
PMT
/ H09 / PRICE OBSERVED: FROM 56.60 TO 62€
and sometimes appeared
in the same consists.

TILLIG :
SOME WAGONS
Tillig produces three
4-wheeler wagons, the
reproduction of meter
gauge prototypes (12mm
gauge in H0), which are also
available for 9mm gauge.
e flat wagon with
stanchions from the
Spreewaldbahn railway, ref.
15913, is a fairly old model,
but its engraving is of good
quality, the markings are
sharp, including on the
stanchions themselves.
e Harz railway open
wagon ref. 15950 was
built by HAWA (Hannover
Wagonfabrik) in 1912 for the
Nordhausen Wernigeroder
Eisenbahn (NWE) railway,
and it is still in service to
this day on the HSB.
e 4-wheeler short flat
wagon ref. 15919 carries
a tarpaulin-covered load
marked “Holzwerke
Rinkemühle”, concealing what
is produced by the sawmill...
is wagon, a former log-
carrier with bolsters, 4.5m
long, is part of a group of
two that have been restored
and preserved on the Harz

/ H012-H09
railway. Built in 1900 by
PRICE OBSERVED: BETWEEN 24.50 AND 30.50€
Hofman for the NWE railway,
it was still in service in 1981
for this Selketal sawmill.

MINITRAINS :
CARRIAGE PER UNIT
e small 4-wheeler passenger
carriage, with end balconies and four
windows, which used to be available
only in complete sets with a Böhler
0-4-0 T in green livery, can now be
purchased separately in blue/cream or
red/cream livery. ese models feature
very fine etched handrails and are fitted
with close coupling. is is a first in the
range, and ensures a smooth passage
through sharp curves. e models
are well made, and the metal wire
handrails, as well as the brake wheel, are
add-on parts. e markings are very
neat and the colour lining very sharp.
As the bodies clip onto the chassis,
figures can easily be installed inside.

: A SHORT TURNOUT

o complement its Setrack
range in H09 / 009, Peco
produces a short 22.8cm
radius turnout, ideal for
creating layouts with sectional
track. e code 80 rail is very
fine, more so than what is
available from other brands,
the regularly spaced sleepers
accurately represent standard
secondary railway practice.
is new turnout is part of the
Setrack range, meaning that
electrical continuity beyond the
frog is ensured by switching the
point blades. If the points are set
for a given track, it is supplied
and if not, the current flow is
interrupted. is is a perfect
system for those who like to
isolate a siding for storing an
engine. On the other hand, this
system is not suitable for those
using DCC. e dead frog is 9mm
long. We tested the turnouts
with a great many 4-wheeler
engines, and none of them
stalled, including the shortest
and the oldest, provide the
wheels are clean and the wipers
are reliable! e mobile sleeper
is fitted with a tiny spring which
holds the point blade against
the rail, ensuring good electrical
contact. Naturally, both contact
surfaces must remain clean
and, for example, clear of any
weathering. If you want to fit a
slow turnout motor, you will have
to remove the spring, but take
care the blades fit snugly against
the stock rails, or else feed the
rails leading to the frog with
jump wires soldered between
the sleepers under the turnout.
